MIPFormats is the showcase for the global formats community, which is taking place the fist two days before MIPTV (April 8). During his MIPFormats keynote today, Apploff will share some of his expertise talking about how he creates, develops and produces formats both in-house, as well as in partnership with some of the biggest production companies in the world. He will also discuss the state of the industry and what he’s looking to create in the future.

Lucy Smith, Director of MIPFormats The MIPFormats Conference theme for 2019 is Unscripted Formats: The Power Game Between New and Legacy Players, which today will explores the rapidly-changing ecosystem influenced by a host of mobile and online operators and creative talent from a variety of fields.
To illustrate the theme, MIPFormats will unveil a series of case studies being presented for the first time to an international audience including The Masked Singer, the latest US hit by producer, Craig Plestis, CEO of Smart Dog, and the Korean format creator, Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) presented by Damon Park, Managing Director; and Rhythm + Flow, Netflix’s new hip-hop competition show by producer Mike Jackson, CEO of Get Lifted.

Jeff Apploff is President and CEO of Apploff Entertainment, a cutting-edge production company that creates, develops and produces world-class formats. This year, Apploff executive produced Mental Samurai for FOX, hosted by actor Rob Lowe. He is currently in production for Season 3 of Beat Shazam on FOX, a primetime musical game show he created. The show is based on the ubiquitous Shazam app, and is hosted by Jamie Foxx. In 2015, Apploff created and sold a primetime game show, based on the world’s most popular trivia app, QuizUp, to NBC.
