JAMS The Teen TV Series On Sexual Harassment
Premiered On Rai Gulp & Secured Audience Of
100,000 Viewers & Audience Share Of 0.4%
Simona Ercolani, CEO & Creative Director - Stand by Me |
Simona Ercolani, CEO and Creative Director of Stand by Me, the production company behind the series JAMS, the first kids TV show in Europe about the issue and topic of sexual harassment, premiered on TV channel Rai Gulp, with figures of 100,000 viewers and an audience share of 0.4%, higher than the average of the channel in the same time slot. It significantly achieved it targeted audience of 11-14 year-old girls and 4-10 year-old girls with 6% and 4.40% respectively.
Created by Italian public broadcaster Rai Ragazzi (Rai Kids) and Stand By Me, and directed by Alessandro Celli, JAMS revolves round Joy (Sonia Battisti), Alice (Giulia Cragnotti), Max (Andrea Dolcini) and Stefano (Luca Edoardo Varone), four inseparable friends and classmates who decided to participate in a cooking contest organized by the school. To creating the story and connect with its audience, director Alessandro Celli uses the technique of the ‘constructed reality’, where the acting, even if guided by a script, is mostly improvised: an innovative, unscripted, television style where young actors are called to act spontaneously and behave as they would in real life. The groups’ levity is threatened when Joy becomes a victim of sexual harassment by a lawyer who is a family friend, and her friends become aware of the problem and save her with the help of their parents.
L-R Joy, Max and Alice - JAMS Simona and her team at Stand By Me, worked closely with a team of neuropsychologists and specialists on the subject based at the Roman hospital Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù. The TV series objective is to help kids recognized the potential risk in some situations and to talk to adults about them. Renowned Italian chef and TV presenter Alessandro Borghese guest stars on the series.
As Stand By Me continues its growth in the kids & teen target audience, its philosophy remains committed to bringing to the screen stories that are original, real and contemporary, ranging in genres and formats, from fiction to docu-reality, from factual to infotainment. The company is currently working on Lettori Young, a show which will air on LaF (Sky channel 135) that tells the true stories of how the life of many young Italian readers are intertwined with the books that have changed and affected them the most.
JAMS was nominated for Best Live Action / Hybrid TV series at the Pulcinella Awards 2019 at Cartoon of The Bay Italian Festival in April in Turin, has garnered audiences on the streaming platform RaiPlay when it was released entirely (March 6th). The series has also been the first-ranking kids live action series and the third-ranking kids TV show with over 80,000 on MediaViewers.
