As MIPDoc 2018 opens, Ralf Rückauer, VP ZDF Enterprises, says: “We are really pleased to offer The Story of Europe in addition to another exceptional documentary series Planet of Treasures (working title) with Sir Christopher Clark.” During MIPDoc ZDF is showcasing a number of quality documentaries during the 2 days prior to MIPTV. The Story of Europe (6 x 50’) is a ground-breaking series that tells the story of Europe by exploring different chapters of its eventful history, a journey through space and time, from the first physical beginnings to the first human settlers.

The History of Weapons (10 x 50’) shows the evolution of weapon technology throughout the history of the world. Africa River Wild (7 x 50’) takes the viewer to the rivers of Africa which spread fresh water and life, through parched desert and scrubland, through grassy savannahs and even through the deepest African jungles.
A new series, Planet of Treasures (working title), the new Terra X documentary project, is shooting in Vietnam. The documentary project sees Cambridge historian, Sir Christopher Clark, visiting sites with the title UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ancient world knew seven wonders of the world; UNESCO – the cultural organisation of the United Nations - now has more than a thousand treasures. Since 1978, it has been bestowing the title World Heritage to any site that is globally significant due to its uniqueness.

In Planet of Treasures, Christopher Clark explores the best of the man-made masterpieces, the nature’s monuments, cultural achievements and universal inventions. The series includes examples such as: the Cambodian temple city of Angkor Wat, the Great Wall of China and the Grand Canyon in the USA.
The series aims to familiarise a wider audience with the heritage sites. The first season of three leads us to major sights in China, India and South-East Asia. The second season introduces us to treasures found on the American continent.
Gero von Boehm is the author and director. Planet of Treasures was commissioned by ZDF and is an interscience film GmbH production. ZDF expects to broadcast the series in 2019 during the Terra X time slot on Sunday evenings at 7.30pm.
Highlights from ZDFE.unscripted’s entertainment genre include the 55-minutes docutainment Cash or Trash, a daily show that uncovers the price of the audience’s treasures and hidden heirlooms and the 90-minutes quiz show You’ll Never Get It! where two teams of celebrities face their opponents with razor-sharp wit as they grope to answer the oddest questions on TV.
