Speakers on the panel of MIP Format session The New Generation Of Entertainment Formats Lost In Time and Stupid Man, Smart Phone include Hanne McBride, Head of Media, Discovery Networks Norway; James Dug, SVP Development Production, Global Entertainment, FremantleMedia; Nick Parnes, CEO, Kalel Productions, and Sumi Connock, Creative Director of Formats, BBC Worldwide.
The panel poses the question how technology can enhance format concepts successfully, and discuss two case studies. Lost in Time is the newly-developed, first-of-its-kind entertainment format that pushes the boundaries of television as we know it. Using Interactive Mixed Reality™ (IMR), the format follows three contestants as they are transported to different eras and compete in a series of epic challenges against the clock in order to win one jackpot prize. Using a smartphone or tablet app, viewers can also be transported to a Lost in Time virtual world where they can play real-time against both show contestants and others from across the country. The series has been produced by FremantleMedia Norway and the Future Group for TV Norge in Norway.
Stupid Man, Smart Phone. Could you survive in the most remote locations in the world using only your mobile phone? In this original adventure series, a comedian and an online superstar attempt survival in the wilderness with only a smartphone to help. In this case study on Stupid Man, Smart Phone, Sumi Connock, Creative Director of Formats at BBCWW talks to Nick Parnes, CEO of Kalel Productions, exploring the secrets of the production, and how digital and social media have forged the impetus throughout.
