Larry Mellon Joins Chimera Entertainment
Software Games Developer of Angry Birds Epic

Larry Mellon

Chimera Entertainment is the independent development company for digital entertainment software with a focus on mobile and PC; the studio has released more than 25 games. Angry Birds Epic, released in June 2014, is Chimera Entertainment's biggest international success to date with more than 90 million downloads worldwide.

In a move to further strengthen the team, Technology expert Larry Mellon has joined Chimera Entertainment as its new Technical Product Director.

Christian Kluckner, Managing & Operations Director at Chimera Entertainment, said: "We're always looking to grow our team with experienced people, and with Larry we found someone who exceeded our expectations. His broad knowledge and skills in the field of gaming technologies are rare, and everybody here is excited to have him on board. I'm personally looking forward to bringing Chimera to the next level and working with Larry on the biggest game Chimera has done yet."

“It's wonderful to meet the Chimera team and I'm delighted to join them," comments Larry Mellon. "We share a similar iterative design approach to both game play and technology. They already have a solid infrastructure in place, so I'll be able to really focus on how technology can both improve the quality of games, as well as making them even more fun to play.”

Mellon, a leader in technology in the arena of games for more than fifteen years, has worked as programmer, system architect and computer scientist in distributed systems. He started his career in the games industry by joining EA in 2000 to work on The Sims franchise. In 2005, he co-founded Emergent Game Technologies and grew the company to over 70 employees in under three years. As a consultant, he has helped a great many teams to optimize their technologies and processes. In recent years he was in charge of running the Quality Engineering and Performance Group at KIXEYE before joining German F2P giant Goodgame Studios as Senior Director of Development.

About Chimera Entertainment

Chimera Entertainment is an experienced independent development studio for digital entertainment software with more than 25 released games and a focus on mobile and PC games. Angry Birds Epic released in June 2014, is Chimera Entertainment's biggest international success to date with more than 90 million downloads worldwide. Awarded with the LARA Startup Award back in 2007, Chimera now employs more than 50 people in the heart of Munich and is the largest team within the developer network of production house remote control productions.

Since Chimera Entertainment was formed in 2006, the studio has developed 26 games across five platforms, including Angry Birds Epic, Sacred Legends, John Woo's Bloodstroke and the word-puzzle RPG Word Wonders: The Tower of Babel, winner of the German Computer Games Awards 2013 (Best Mobile Game). Chimera Entertainment is part of the developer family remote control productions.

More Information About Remote Control Productions

Chimera Entertainment began with a prototype for a game called Windchaser, the core team (which consisted of three people), managed to close a deal with former German publisher dtp Entertainment, which in turn led to the founding of the company. Disregarding overtime or holidays entirely, the team put all their efforts into completing their entrance ticket into the gaming industry before money ran out – and succeeded in not only creating a game they are proud of to this date, but also in closing a follow-up deal.

The company was an early adopter of new technologies like Unity3D or Microsoft's Silverlight, and quickly improved efficiency and enabled them to make two more games, including the first multiplayer online game Warstory – Europe in Flames, and several smaller mobile games like Ravensburger Memory, Farm Fever, and Demolition Dash. Eventually, the company's relentless output of innovative new concepts led to a deal with Rovio, producers of Angry Birds, resulting in Chimera's biggest success to date: Angry Birds Epic.
