Since 1980 The Business
of Film (TBOF0 has been an innovator in Trade Publishing.
HISTORY of TBOF'S PRODUCT GUIDE MILESTONES: 1980-2012
Always evolving – always innovating - always your best source for
factual & in-depth Industry Reporting & Commentary 1980: Established independent Trade Publication TBOF against
Fierce Competition from the major publications Screen International,
Hollywood Reporter, and Variety. 1983:
Introduced separate to the Main magazine the Free Product Guide Listing with
Pictures of the Executives. The Product Guide is now widely used by all
publications but TBOF remains the only PG where companies can list as many
films as they wish. TBOF believes the PG listing should be easily accessible
to help companies sell their products worldwide. 1985: Published the first Print & Audio magazine, where a
video was contained within the Cover of TBOF. 1987: Sent out the first Product Guide via a Computer Disc.
For Mac or PC. 2006: Created the Berlin Pocket
Issue & Product Guide, which fit easily inside a Pocket or Purse.
2007: Reacting to the ongoing technological
changes and economical factors, became the first trade publication to go
Online with the Daily editions at Cannes and AFM. 2009: Introduced the Printed Presence Cover Editions at AFM
Cannes & Berlin using an ipad to encourage readers to access the online
editions. 2011: At AFM the first trade
publication use of a QR reader on the Cover advertisement that took the
reader directly to the Film Trailer. 2012
launched at AFM the QR Reader Product Guide.

Documentaries: The Blurring Of All The Platforms Is
Seamless & Complete Between Content & The Consumer
Audiences around the world continue to be eager for socially conscious and engaging programming and are propelling the ongoing appetite for the documentary genre on both the small and big screen to a new level. A selected review by TBOF of the offering available at the 2015 edition of MIPDoc covers some very interesting programmes that intersect on a daily basis with our global lives: from subjects such as the race for and to interplanetary life, fracking and its effect on communities, to the cruel and forgotten atrocities of WW11 covered in the documentary Forgotten Sex Slaves - Comfort Women In The Philippines showcased above.
The landscape of documentary content abounds with a richness of content. However the challenge remains: how to reach the audience democratically, effectively, and economically - and have it be rewarding both financially and emotionally for the producers of the content. The genre, depending on the subject matter, is arguably the hardest to get financed.
While the MIPDoc event primarily promotes documentaries (features, series and factual), it also screens a variety of programming available for full screening, including animation, formats and the potpourri of programming that make up the world's television and media platforms.
For the first time, ZDF Enterprises are sponsors of the MIPDoc
Co-Production Pitch 2015 which takes place today (April 11th).
Ralf Ruckauer, VP for ZDFE.factual, said: “We are proud to sponsor this event for the first time this year. As one of the leading...
