The 66th Cannes International Film Festival goes unchallenged as the most prestigious of all the festivals.
Dedicated to its global reach, in 2004 the Festival de Cannes introduced its website simultaneously in eight languages. In 2013 the Festival de Cannes has released the Industry's first animated film festival poster, a masterstroke in itself but even more so in its subliminal messaging.
Shown in embrace are Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, one of filmdom's most legendary couples, not only for their cinematic achievements but also for having had one of the most solid partnerships and marriages in the film business. The message is subtle but clear: Every year more than 35,000 professional members of the global film industry from 110 countries world wide unite in a grand embrace of their mutual passion for
cinema at The Cannes International Film Festival and The Marche du Film.
What defines the prestige of Cannes? There are myriad film festivals throughout the world, but historically, Cannes, and only Cannes, is globally synonymous with the Film Industry. It achieved that illustrious singularity over decades of devotion to the art form, and that unique perception is what holds it dear in the minds of filmmakers across the spectrum from the majors to the independents.
Thierry Frimaux, Artistic Director of The Cannes International Film Festival, sums it up perfectly.
"Cannes belongs to each and every one of us who, year after year, from wherever we are and in our own individual way, contributes towards creating it step by step. It is only by constantly analyzing the Festival, adapting its function and encouraging debate about it that we will continue to make it the very best it can be. Cannes must be open to new ideas, while remaining faithful to its past, of course. Diversity can only enrich it. That4s what makes the Festival de Cannes our festival."
As with the making of any film a multitude of individuals, skills and financial maneuverings come together Behind the Camera to present every Festival de Cannes. Below are the faces In Front of the Camera who will decide the winners of Cannes Film Festival 2013.
