Producer EGuiney Backs Female Driven Drama

Herself, directed by Phyllida Lloyd, is produced by Academy Award® nominee Ed Guiney (The Favourite, Room, The Lobster) and Rory Gilmartin (Rosie) for Element, together with BAFTA award-winning actress, writer, producer and director Sharon Horgan, and co-developed by Element Pictures and Merman. The female-driven drama stars Irish actor Clare Dunne, known for her theater work including Lloyd’s all-female version of Shakespeare’s Henry IV. Dunne stars as a single mother determined to build her own home, and rebuilding her life in the process. Clare Dunne originated the story and co-wrote the screenplay together with Malcolm Campbell. Herself was developed with BBC Films and Screen Ireland and with finance backing from Screen Ireland, BBC Films and the BFI (with National Lottery funding). During AFM, Cornerstone Films is handling worldwide sales and has concluded deals with Youplanet Caramel (Spain), BIM (Italy), Longride (Japan), Lusomundo (Portugal), Forum (Israel) and Italia (Middle East). Element Distribution will be releasing the film in Ireland and Picturehouse Entertainment in the UK. Herself was shot on location in Ireland and is currently in post-production in London.

Tilda Swinton Presides Over
Jury At FIFM In Morocco

The renowned Scottish performer and producer is president of the Jury for 18th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM). Tilda Swinton comments: "It is my honour to serve the exceptional festival of Marrakech as president of the Jury this year. The State of Cinema knows no boundary and the prospect of joining with my comrades from around our planet to discover and celebrate work from all her continents is a privilege and joy for which I am sincerely grateful and to which I look forward immensely."

Eight members complete the jury over which Tilda Swinton will preside: French director Rebecca Zlotowski, British director Andrea Arnold, Franco-Italian actress Chiara Mastroianni, Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho, Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt, Afghan writer and director Atiq Rahimi, Australian director David Michôd, and Moroccan director Ali Essafi.

With a large local audience attending FIFM, the festival has a showcase of 14 films in official competition. Across the breadth of the disciples of film, as writers, actors, directors, and producers, the jury will share their expertise and insights as they select the winners of the festival’s various awards, including the Etoile d’Or 2019 awarded to the best film. The Jury of the 18th Marrakech International Film Festival will announce the award winners during the closing night ceremony on December 7th, 2019.
