Camila Jimenez and Silvana Aguirre, cofounders of The Immigrant, established by the duo in 2019 to produce premium dramas that focus on Hispanic and Latinx content in the US and for the international market, see their ambitions further advanced with equity investments from Fremantle and Bron Ventures, the venture arm of Bron Media Corp. Ashley Levinson, Bron’s Chief Strategy Officer: “We’re delighted to have The Immigrant join the BRON Ventures group of companies and to expand our reach to an ever-growing global audience.” The deal is Fremantle’s first major equity investment in the Latinx and Hispanic scripted market and further expands it scripted space with a global agreement and a 25% equity stake, with Bron Ventures also acquiring a minority stake in company.
With the deal The Immigrant has secured a new full commission, and has multiple projects in active development including a co-production with Fremantle’s Wildside with Lucia Puenzo attached as the showrunner, with further projects in the pipeline.
Based in Europe and part of the RTL group, a division of media giant Bertelsmann., Fremantle continues to grow it drama business, with the acquisition of well-placed strategic investments including Italian based Wildside and Scandi label Miso Film and majority stakes in French label Kwai, Israeli creative based Abot Hameiri and Australian based Easy Tiger as with minority stakes in the UK indies Dancing Ledge and Gurinder Chadha fronted Bend It TV.
The new drama projects Fremantle has entered into include a greenlight from Apple for Mosquito Coast starring Justin Theroux, produced by Fremantle’s North American team. Mosquito Coast is written by Neil Cross and directed by Rupert Wyatt. The US division also secured a deal with Showtime for the adaptation of Mervyn Peake’s Gormenghast book series with Toby Whithouse serving as showrunner, with Neil Gaiman and Akiva Goldman as executive producers. Fremantle’s UK producer, Euston Films announced their ITV commission of the Neil Cross penned drama Because the Night.
Bron’s films include the recently released Joker with a $634.4 million overseas total for a 32%/68% domestic/overseas split and $934 million global to date* Bron’s upcoming films for release Queen & Slim and Bombshell. (*source Forbes)
The Immigrant is based in Los Angeles, with offices in Mexico and Spain, with a new office opening in Colombia in 2020 with further Latin America expansion planned.

Prior to setting up the new production company, Camila Jimenez, CEO of The Immigrant, acted as the Content Officer for Fusion Media Group heading the premium content studio Story House and executive-producing projects such as Netflix’s El Chapo and Murder Mountain. Silvana Aguirre was the creator and showrunner of El Chapo and previously held the role of Creative Director at Story House. Aguirre is the co-founder and Head of Development for The Immigrant.
