Solmaz Azizi (pictured above), the newly appointed head of Berlinale Series, has played a major role in establishing the programme in 2015 and has been closely involved in the selection of series throughout. After successfully bringing together the Berlinale Series programme and the EFM industry event Drama Series Days at the Zoo Palast in 2018, collaboration continues and the 2019 preparation are currently underway.
The now indistinct blurring of the lines of the big small and micro screens sees the audiences wanting to see content across the many platforms available to them. With the Berlinale Series programme the opportunity of seeing a drama series on the big screen in the setting of the beautiful renovated 1950 Zoo Palast cinema venue has proven to be a huge success.
Since 2015, the Berlin International Film Festival has made serial formats a focus of its programme. At the same time, with Drama Series Days a popular market platform for representatives of the industry has been established at the European Film Market (EFM). For the first time in 2018, the two events took place at one venue, the Zoo Palast, a location that has played an historical role in the festival.
The Zoo Palast Berlin After a successful programme in 2018, with the series Picnic at Hanging Rock and The Looming Tower, the festival is once more in the process of sourcing exciting serial projects for the 2019 edition. Berlinale Series remains part of the Official Programme under Festival Director Dieter Kosslick.
The Market platform of The Drama Series Days is a joint initiative of the European Film Market (EFM), Berlinale Co-Production Market, and Berlinale Talents. The constantly expanding programme of conferences meets the appetite of industry professionals, as well the selection of carefully curated market screenings which are accessible by invitation only.
Drama Series Days will take place at the Zoo Palast from February 11 – 13, 2019. Parallel to this, Berlinale Series will also present its premiere screenings there.
In 2019, the Berlinale Co-Production Market is organising for the fifth time “Co-Pro Series”, a pitching event for producers, editors, distributors, and other financiers of serial formats.
The official partner for Drama Series Days 2019 at the European Film Market is the Film-und Medienstiftung NRW; the platform is supported by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.
